The Transportation Ministry and the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry on Friday signed an agreement on the use of aviation biofuel and renewable energy sources at airports.

“The joint agreement requires the establishment of a working team involving both ministries, as well as the airport operators and other stakeholders concerned,” said Harry Bakti, director general for air transportation and the renewable energy at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, in a speech after signing the agreement at the Transportation Ministry headquarters in Jakarta. “[This team] will be responsible for planning, preliminary work and sustainable execution and will serve from 2014 to 2016.”

He said the use of biofuel and renewable energy sources was part of a broader effort on the part of the Transportation Ministry to reduce greenhouse emissions and mitigate climate change.
