Representatives of several hotels in Bali participated in a one-day workshop on Thursday to upgrade their knowledge of efficient environmental management in their daily operations.
Organized by Kuoni Group, a Switzerland-based global travel-related service provider, participants were presented with topics related to environmental sustainability from the Temesi Waste Project, and with a toolkit for sustainability implementation and international recognition from Travelife.
They also exchanged ideas and shared best practice during a round table discussion on achieving sustainable waste, water and energy management.
Legian Beach Hotel, as the host of the event, was presented as an example of best practice on what motivates hotel managers to implement environmental practices.
Arif Billah, general manager of the hotel, spoke to participants about the hotel’s sustainability programs and activities to preserve the environment as well as promote local products and services.
“We hold a beach clean-up every month and a local community market every weekend to facilitate local traders in surrounding areas,” he said.
