A long drought and strong winds have caused forest fires to strike in West Bali National Park’s forest conservation area in Buleleng, as well as on Mount Agung in Karangasem, east Bali.
Dozens of hot spots were visible in areas adjacent to Pura Kerta Kawat temple in Buleleng, affecting hundreds of hectares of forest in west Bali’s forest reserve.
Putu Pasek Sujendra, head of Buleleng Fire Brigade, said that the hot spots were located in areas inaccessible by the team of fire fighters.
“The hot temperatures have caused the fires to break out, but there was also human error. One resident threw a cigarette onto a dry bush,” Sujendra said.
